VET @ MSC

Vocational Education and Training delivered to Secondary Students

If you want to gain industry skills and knowledge, then make sure a VET (Vocational Education and Training) subject is part of your VCE (Victorian Certificate of Education) or VCAL (Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning) program in Year 11 and 12.

Studying a VET subject will help you to develop a range of employability and practical skills and give you exposure to industry and local employers.

Whether you are looking for employment or an apprenticeship straight after school, wanting to continue training at University, TAFE or seeking to develop skills for personal reasons then a VET subject could be the right subject for you.

What is VET?

VET subjects are great entry courses, either at Certificate II or III level and are delivered over one or two years.

The courses can be delivered at Mildura Senior College, or they can be off-site at Riverside Trade Training Centre, SuniTAFE, Red Cliffs Secondary College or Aust-Link.

Some VET subjects are delivered directly by the training organisation (RTO), where as other VET subjects the training and assessing is delivered by qualified teaching staff and the RTO issues the Certificates and Statements of Attainment only.

Why Study VET?

VET Subjects are a great pathway that can lead to further training at TAFE or University.

They are also a great way to prepare you for work, through apprenticeships, traineeships or direct employment.

How does VET fit in with VCE and VCAL programs?

VET subjects can be completed as part of your VCE or VCAL program. You can enrol in one, two or even three VET subjects as part of your school program, although you can only chose one VET subject that is delivered off-site.

VCE: If you are enrolling in VCE you will receive either a Unit 1 & 2 or a Unit 3 & 4 credit towards your VCE depending on your VET subject. Many of the VCE VET subjects are scored assessed and most will provide either a study score or a 10% increment towards the ATAR.

VCAL: If you are enrolling in VCAL you must complete a VET subject as part of your program and will receive a VCAL Unit for every 90 nominal hours of training.
